Nestled in in the heart of the UK, Bradford is centrally positioned as a vital nexus connecting the major powerhouses of the North. Leeds, Harrogate, York, and Manchester are all within an hour's drive from the city centre.
Up to £5billion has been earmarked for infrastructure investment, revolutionising our rail network, introducing trams through Mass Transit, as well as improving bus travel, and flight. This substantial investment heralds an exciting era of growth and connectivity for the city.
A crucial part of this is a £2 billion government investment to create a new train station. With an annual GVA uplift of £2.9 billion and 27,000 new jobs predicted to be created by 2060, this new rail station will redefine Bradford. A £500 million commitment will also look to upgrade and electrify the Calder Valley Line, reducing travel times between Bradford and Leeds by 40%.
Currently home to two bustling train stations, Bradford is also set to expand its Foster Square Station with an additional £24m injection paving the way for an increase in return services to London Kings Cross. A £2.5bn West Yorkshire Mass Transit System is also on the cards to boost connections between Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, and Halifax. This enhanced connectivity will place Bradford at the heart of an economic hub in the North.
There will also be a focus on sustainable and active travel, thanks to an £80 million investment through the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) with new park-and-ride services, expanded cycle and bus routes, and a Public Transport Corridor.
Bradford's connectivity gives access to global markets, thanks to the Leeds Bradford Airport just six miles away from the city centre - the UK's fastest-expanding regional airport which is launching new routes to reach 80 destinations. A £100 million regeneration and expansion is set for completion by the year 2026. This bold initiative will not only effectively and economically unlock the gates to international trade for Bradford-based enterprises, but it will also make the world more accessible than ever before, simultaneously attracting a larger number of visitors to the city, thereby boosting the local economy and enhancing the city's cultural vibrancy. Here on the ground, Bradford is also easily accessible and seamlessly woven into the fabric of the national motorway network, close to the M62, M1, and A1.
