Links 2 Team
A new team called Links 2 has been set up by Invest in Bradford to look at the major regeneration schemes currently underway in Bradford and to work with developers, contractors and end users encouraging them to employ local people and work with other local firms.
As an example, as well as working with developers Westfield on their £300 million Broadway scheme to encourage the use of local contractors and labour, work is also already underway to look at how to fill the thousands of jobs that will be created by the Broadway retail development scheme.
The emphasis is on partnership working. A recent meeting as part of an initiative by the Government's National Employer Panel saw representatives from the team working alongside private sector developers, training organisations, funding bodies and other public sector support bodies.
The Links 2 Team includes Imtiaz Ahmed, Bal Singh, Nicky McAlpine, Tony Askew and Peter Williams. For further information please give us a call on 01274 432007 or please email us on [peter.williams@bradford.gov.uk].

Food and Drink
Renowned for its curry restaurants, Bradford is also the
centre of a dynamic food and drink manufacturing industry.
Bradford is home to the new-build headquarters of Wm Morrison
Supermarkets Plc, one of the leading UK supermarket chains.
Other long-established major supermarket chains in the
area are ASDA, TESCO, and Sainsbury’s. Many new companies
have achieved spectacular growth in the last ten years
with innovative food and drink products. The growing importance
of food manufacturing and distribution to meet the increasing
demand for 'home ready meals' is a recognised strength
within the District.
A future key project is the development of Bradford's
Food Technology Park. The local authority are currently
working up plans for the development of an industrial park
to provide a number of units for food manufacturing businesses.
The park will comprise a number of incubator units of
around 150 sq m along with a central administration block.
This will provide communal services for the tenants including
reception, meeting rooms, large conference room and a café and
possibly a lab for carrying out microbiological testing.
The remainder of the site will be made available on a
plot by plot basis for food manufacturing companies to
design and build units to their specific requirements.
We envisage plots being made available to allow the construction
of units up to 2,500 sq m.
A dedicated team from IIB is working with the industry
to provide premises, training and support to meet 21st
century needs.
