The Advanced Digital Institute

ADI LogoOne of the Priority Projects within the Airedale Masterplan was the creation of a world-class commercial research and design facility to support the advanced manufacturing and digital sector, and re-enforcing Airedale and the wider West Yorkshire sub-region as a key location for the digital cluster both regionally and nationally.

The Advanced Digital Institute (ADI) is the UK’s first independent research and development institute, which was established in 2006 with the appointment of the CEO Ged Powell and 16 staff of national and international repute.

The ADI acts as a catalyst and high tech business centre helping companies develop leading edge solutions for the global market in technologies such as wireless communication, embedded systems, satellite navigation and positioning technology, digital TV, home networking and consumer broadband.

Aims:

  • Short term technology development and research for small, medium and larger companies
  • Development of non-core ideas (which would otherwise fail to come to market) generated by larger companies
  • A deal-making exchange to ensure that the ideas developed into products do not fail to make it to market due to lack of finance or suitable commercial partners
