In 2004 City of Bradford District Council, in partnership with Yorkshire Forward, commissioned a team of consultants to draw up a Masterplan and strategy for Manningham and its residents. The aim of the Masterplan was to provide a strategic framework for regeneration and to identify significant physical and social projects to provide a catalyst for change.
Manningham has a range of excellent resources that can contribute to its economic regeneration including Lister Park, Lister Mills, Bradford City Football Ground, Carlisle Business Centre, Manningham Means Business, a range of strong and loyal businesses and also local people enthusiastic about their future in Manningham.
The Masterplan aims to retain and celebrate the positive aspects of Manningham, acknowledging its heritage while identifying key projects to address the physical, social, economic and environmental challenges it faces.
A priority project within the masterplan is the redevelopment of Lister Mills in the heart of Manningham.
A broad range of stakeholders are contributing to the regeneration of Manningham including the Council's Economic Development Service, Bradford University School of Management, Urban Splash, local residents and other Voluntary and Community sector organisations.
Aims:
The strategic ambitions of the Masterplan are to:
- encourage new business start up and the growth of existing businesses
- encourage investment in Manningham with businesses moving into the area
- bring back into use derelict sites and support projects improving the environment
- improve the housing in the area with new houses being built and existing houses improved
- overall improvements to the area including investment in the appearance of the major roads
- promote the involvement of local residents in decision making through neighbourhood management
- support efforts to enhance educational achievement and to create new learning opportunities
