Airedale has been identified as one of the key priorities to the economic regeneration of the District.
In 2004, Arup and a team of supporting consultants were appointed by the Airedale Partnership, City of Bradford District Council and Yorkshire Forward to develop a masterplan and strategy to guide the sustainable and integrated regeneration of Airedale.
‘Airedale Corridors: A Masterplan and Strategy for Airedale’ was launched in March 2005. At its heart is the regeneration of the three interconnected town centres of Keighley, Bingley and Shipley and the enhancement of the rural landscape, the ‘raw material’ to be harnessed to deliver future change.
The masterplan sees the area performing three distinct roles in the local economy, as a:-
- Creative corridor – supporting innovation and business start-ups using the latest cutting edge technologies.
- Connected corridor – linking road, rail and air transport and broadband technology to support Airedale as a premier businesses and residential location.
- Lifestyle corridor – which capitalises on the outstanding natural landscape, town centres and waterways to make Airedale a great place to live, work and visit.
As part of the Masterplan, the consultants Arup identified 5 priority projects whose implementation is central to the regeneration of the area. Click on the links below for further details about these priority projects:
Implementation has moved rapidly forward, and the document is embedded in strategic planning, transport and economic strategies and policy at Regional and City Region level.
