Ambitious businesses looking for the next big thing are already investing heavily in the city. The Broadway shopping centre opened in 2015; the increase in footfall that is predicted will make Bradford the third most visited destination in Yorkshire after Leeds City Centre and Meadowhall.
The City Centre Growth Zone team within Bradford Council became the first winners of the Revo public sector gold award, a new category for 2016 aimed at local authorities and other public sector bodies to recognise achievement in securing investment. It was awarded for the Council’s work with rate rebates and other initiatives to regenerate Bradford city centre by, to quote Revo, "taking a proactive approach to securing investment to help support and enhance the retail environment.” Despite a very challenging economic environment, Bradford Council was also a crucial partner in the delivery and opening of the 570,000 sqft Broadway shopping centre in November 2015.
The Broadway, Bradford won the coveted "Development of the Year" category at the Yorkshire Business Insider Property Awards in 2016. It beat off strong competition from other projects around the Yorkshire region.
Plans are underway for further large-scale mixed use schemes and Grade A office developments with negotiations taking place with private sector partners.
