The first Bradford District Regeneration Summit was held at the Midland Hotel on Tuesday 20th January 2009.
The event was attended by representatives from the public and private sectors as well as community groups to establish a wider partnership forum for a series of on-going summits covering regeneration and prosperity. The aim of the event was to discuss how the private and public sector can work together in the short term to help businesses and residents manage the impacts of the economic downturn, and to discuss plans for the medium and long-term to ensure the district is well placed for an economic upturn.
A number of presentations were given at the event. Bradford Council speakers included Coun Adrian Naylor the Executive Member for Regeneration and Economy, Strategic Director for Regeneration Barra Mac Ruairi, and Senior Economic Officer, Mark Clayton. Yorkshire Building Society's Corporate Development Director, Andy Caton, also addresses the delegation, and the Professor of City Development at the University of Glasgow, Stuart Gulliver ran a workshop on planning for the longer term.
Four workshops considered actions to address the downturn, divided into short and medium term issues and interventions.
The next step was to develop an action plan which seeks to address the key issues highlighted at the summit, for ownership by the regeneration partnerships and immediate implementation.
