Significant progress has been made on the Broadway shopping centre development in recent weeks. Following public consultation, the developer, Westfield, has now submitted a revised planning application.
The proposed development includes approximately 75 shops and more than 1,000 car parking spaces, together with potential for future residential and office development above the shops.
The application comes a few weeks after the developer confirmed Marks & Spencer would occupy a significant amount of space at the centre. The retailer is the first of two expected 'anchor tenants' (large, prestigious stores) at the scheme.
Westfield said the Marks & Spencer store would be based around a new public square opposite the listed St. Peter House, towards the northern side of the centre.
The next step in the process will be assessment of the application by Council officers, followed by discussion of the application by the Regulatory and Appeals Committee, to lead to a decision.
Barra Mac Ruairí, Strategic Director, Department of Regeneration and Culture, said: "This is a major milestones in the development of the Broadway scheme and it is clear that significant progress is being made.
"Westfield says there is a strong level of interest from retailers in the scheme which is another positive sign.
"A completed Broadway shopping centre would bring millions of pounds into the district economy and create jobs for local people."
-->Westfield's Director of Development and Asset Management, Duncan Bower, said: "The planning application is the first step in progressing the development and we are pleased to confirm the application has now been submitted to Bradford Planning Service.
"We were pleased by the response from the local community at the recent consultation event which showed that the majority of people are in favour of the new proposals."
