Schofield Sweeney win Yorkshire lawyer of the year award

On 6th October, the Queens Hotel in Leeds hosted the glittering Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year Awards 2010, at which Schofield Sweeney was announced as the winner of the award for Law Firm of the Year (11-30 partners).

The Awards, which celebrate excellence in the legal sector, are widely recognised as the premier event amongst the region’s legal community. This year’s Awards proved to be particularly hotly contested due to 2010 being the decade anniversary of their inception.

The ceremony was once again hosted by ITV’s Gaynor Barnes. Over 300 lawyers from across the region gathered at the event to applaud the winners.

The judging panel comprised of co-Presidents of the Awards, Jeremy Shulman of Shulmans Solicitors and Peter McCormick, OBE, of McCormicks Solicitors, who chaired the judges; Deborah Green of Leeds Legal, John McQuater of Atherton Godfrey Solicitors, Elizabeth Simpson of Andrew Jackson and Norman Taylor of Jones Myers.

The awards are organised by Barker Brooks Media and supported by the Leeds Law Society, and Yorkshire Business Insider. Other sponsors include Just Costs Solicitors, Alpha Biolabs, ARAG Legal Services, BDO LLP, The Danwood Group (Northern) Ltd, Estate Research, Financial Leeds, Florit Brooke, FWBS Ltd, Kings Chambers, Midshire Business Systems Park Lane Plowden, Pearson Jones PLC, Property Search Group, SearchFlow, Stroz Friedberg, Wesleyan for Lawyers and Zenith Chambers.

As well as honouring hard work and talent in the Yorkshire legal profession, the awards raised money for local charity, Yorkshire Cancer Research.
