Pupils learn their lessons at Morrisons

December 9th, 2010

Bradford primary school children prepared for an Apprentice-style contest by visiting Morrisons.

Year Six pupils at Marshfield Primary School took inspiration from a visit to the Bradford-based supermarket’s Wakefield distribution centre.

Scott Roberts, the firm’s regional controller, gave a talk on the roles and responsibilities of one of the largest warehouses in the country before pupils enjoyed a tour of the facility.

Lauren McDonald, of Marshfield Primary, said: “The pupils have learned a lot about developing their enterprise skills which will have an impact when they come to run their own businesses during ‘The Apprentice’. “The project helps our pupils to develop so many skills needed for every day life.”

* Morrisons saw its market share slip marginally for the first time since the end of 2007, from 12.1 per cent to 12 per cent in a significant shift away from recent trends.

Research firm Kantar Worldpanel. said the decline signalled an end to the growth in shopper numbers following the acquisition of Somerfield stores.

At the same time, Tesco boosted its market share for the first time in six months as it rolled out additional promotions. Its share edged up to 30.7 per cent in the 12 weeks to November 28, compared with 30.6 per cent in the same period last year, according to Kantar Worldpanel.
