New packaging will be jobs boost

October 19th, 2010

Development of a new food packaging product for a leading supermarket chain is spearheading yet more expansion at a Bradford company.

Alpha Media Solutions, based at Tyersal, is looking to boost jobs as it increases its market share through investing in the packaging side of the business.

The focus on packaging at the printing company is part of a diversification programme.

Alpha specialists have been working with a leading retailer to develop a new packaging product, for which patents are now pending.

Sales and marketing director Simon Rose said the food packaging product was designed to enable the supermarket to have more advertising in a smaller area, reduce costs and generate business.

The product has been ordered by a leading chain and generated interest from others. It is due to be launched before Christmas .

Mr Rose said: “We’re keeping the details under wraps whilst we get the patents sorted out.

“The new product is something that we’ve worked on with a leading supermarket to help them add value. That is the approach we are taking as we develop our packaging operations based on an innovative approach.”

The firm has invested in new machinery and expects to add between ten and 20 staff to its 85-strong workforce as the packaging operation grows and enables Alpha to expand its product range.

Mr Rose said: “Like many other businesses in the print industry, we found the economic downturn challenging.

“This led us to look at our processes, the services we offer and ways that we could diversify to increase profit and safeguard, if not increase, jobs. We now see our future firmly in growing the packaging aspect of the business in line with our current print services.”
