Heating engineer wins apprenctice crown

December 17th, 2010

A 21-YEAR-old heating and ventilating engineer from Bradford has been recognised as Yorkshire and the Humber's best apprentice.

Victoria Hardy received the award at a ceremony at the Royal Armouries in Leeds from JTL, a training provider to the building services engineering sector.

JTL offers advanced apprenticeships in electrical installation, plumbing, heating and ventilating and engineering maintenance and its schemes are funded for young people between the ages of 16 to 24.

As well as receiving a trophy Ms Hardy, who works for Airedale NHS Trust in Keighley, was presented with a £700 cheque after beating nine other finalists, drawn from hundreds of nominees across the region studying plumbing, electrical, engineering maintenance and heating and ventilation apprenticeships.

The JTL National Apprentice of the Year Award will be held at the Tower of London in February when Ms Hardy will compete against 10 other regional finalists.

Reg Normington, Ms Hardy's JTL training officer, said: “Congratulations to Victoria and her employers at Airedale NHS Trust, this achievement places her in the top 1% of JTL apprentices in England and Wales.

“These regional awards celebrate the achievements of JTL apprentices, their colleges and employers who are providing vital skills for the future despite the difficult economic climate.
